KaWa Hula: Hula Through Time

Performed by San Franscisco-based Halau o Keikiali'i, a ka halau (a traditional Hawai'ian performance ensemble) under the direction of kumu/singer/songwriter Kawika Keikiali'i Alfiche. For over 15 years, it has been the group's goal to educate the general public about the Hawai'ian perople and their traditional customs, values, and protocols through its ensemble of 13 dancers, singers, and musicians with ages ranging from 5 to 75. As part of this educational process, Alfiche was able to attend two class sessions in Professor Kehaulani Kauanui's course The United States in the Pacific Islands. Alfiche and his dancers also led a Hula dance workshop for Wesleyan students and local residents.
